2021 Autumn Proposal Bootcamps
The award-winning Autumn Proposal Bootcamp (Sept 20 – Nov 19, 2021) is now fully online! Our grant writers have almost twice the success as non-Bootcamp trainees (Botham et al., PLoS ONE).

Target Audience:
Biosciences & School of Medicine Graduate Students, Postdocs, Instructors, Clinical Fellows. Open also to faculty, or staff. Opt-in Peer Review open to only trainees, including Graduate Students, Postdocs, Clinical fellows, Instructors, etc.

We have two Proposal Bootcamps led by outstanding Grant Coaches that will include informative didactics and peer review:
- NRSA Proposal Bootcamp on Thursdays 3-4:30PM – for NIH NRSA Fellowship (F30, F31, F32) grant writers (due Dec 8)
- Hanna Gray Proposal Bootcamp on Fridays 9:30-11AM – for HHMI Hanna Gray grant writers (due Dec 1). Learn more about the Hanna Gary Fellowship Program.
Our ONLINE Proposal Bootcamp includes:
- Self-paced videos and resources to guide the development of your proposal
- Overview of grantsmanship fundamentals
- Tips & resources for writing compelling grants delivered through text & videos
- Opt-in peer review grouping for feedback and opportunities to “think like a reviewer“
- Grant writing tips delivered directly to your in-box each week
- Weekly Mini Lecture and Q&A with Grant Coaches via Zoom
- Weekly Office Hours with Grant Coaches via Zoom
- Slack community with other grant writers & Grant Coaches
Recommendations for Proposal Bootcamp participants:
- Commit to a writing schedule during the entire course.
- Set aside 1-2 hours per week to review materials on course website (Canvas) which are organized as 10 modules.
- Build 2-3 writing blocks into your weekly schedule of at least 2-hours each to draft your proposal documents.
Graduate Students:
Please register using the link above AND sign-up for BIOS 242 in Axess. The course is credit / no credit. A Satisfactory grade requires completing the modules in Canvas as well as participating in one of the below activities:
- Opt-in peer review groups
- NRSA Proposal Bootcamp or Hanna Gray Proposal Bootcamp
- Meeting at least once with a Grant Coach during the Autumn Quarter to discuss your proposal or research plan
Sign up for the NRSA Proposal Bootcamp (same signup as above) if you are planning a NIH NRSA F30, F31, F32 Fellowship. This Bootcamp will include both informative didactics and peer review each week led by outstanding Grant Coaches. The NRSA Proposal Bootcamp will meet on Thursdays September 23 to November 18 from 3-4:30 pm.
