Does the idea of writing a grant or a paper make you feel overwhelmed and anxious? Do you ever wonder why writing fills you with dread and often drives you to procrastinate?
If you answered yes to either of these questions, then this workshop is for you. Just like breathing is necessary for life, writing is a vital component of academic success. Interestingly, while many of us struggle with scientific writer’s block, writing is something we all do everyday in the form of drafting an email or updating our notebooks. In these casual settings, we write with ease to organize our ideas and communicate with our peers. Yet, why do we hit a wall when asked to write a proposal, paper, or dissertation? This workshop aims to help participants identify personal writing barriers and develop techniques to overcome the initial hesitation to write. As a group we will also discuss the concept of developing a daily writing routine and collectively commit to trying new writing practices to achieve our personal writing goals.
