This workshop will teach transformational skills for productive, sustainable, and even joyful writing. Whether you’re a trainee preparing your first grant application or faculty balancing multiple writing projects, this interactive 3-hour virtual workshop offers practical strategies to help you build a healthier and more effective writing practice.
This workshop is open to any scholars and faculty at any career stage.
Please note: This is a 3-hour interactive workshop. To get the most from the experience, attendees are encouraged to join from a distraction-free environment, remain engaged throughout the session, and participate in discussions and activities.
What to Expect
In this workshop, you will learn a constellation of interlocking tools that will empower you to:
1) construct healthy, sustainable and productive writing sessions
2) develop a system of writing that deconstructs the various functions of academic writing in order to increase depth and efficiency
3) learn how to overcome the psychological barriers to writing
4) improve your wellbeing and mental health
About the Speaker
Rich Furman, MFA, MSW, PhD
Coach Rich is full professor emeritus of social work at the University of Washington, Tacoma. Rich possesses 30 years experience as a clinical social worker, organizational leader, therapist, coach and scholar. Author of 20 books and over 120 peer-reviewed articles, Rich is recognized as one of the international leaders in expressive, arts-based qualitative methodologies. He will help you become the scholar you wish to be, or leave it all and open a margarita bar on a beach in Bali–whatever your heart desires. In Rich, you have someone with the skills and temperament to help you do either! Rich loves salsa dancing, playing punk rock, jazz and salsa ukulele, writing creative nonfiction, dogs, and helping amazing people develop in ways they never thought possible.
For 17 years, Rich has provided individual coaching to over 750 academics, creatives and leaders (mostly faculty, some doctoral students, lots of associate deans, deans, provosts and presidents) from over 130 universities and organizations. 70 percent of Rich’s clients are BIPOC. He loves what he does and would love to talk to you about how he can help you thrive.
