March 29, 2023 4:07 pm
This summer, the Grant Writing Academy is launching StartR for faculty planning their first NIH R01 (or similar proposal). StartR is based on our award-winning Proposal Bootcamp which increased participants’ abilities to secure funding and grant writing self-efficacy (PLoS One).
StartR is a 2-day program for School of Medicine faculty (priority for UML, UTL, and NTLR) who are submitting their first NIH R01 in October 2023 or February 2024. StartR is designed to bring joy into your grant writing by prioritizing tasks to focus your efforts, providing winning strategies to draft key documents, and using design thinking tools for iterative feedback. You will also join a collaborative community of other grant writers!
StartR will be in-person on July 20 and August 3 from 9:15 AM to 4 PM at Stanford. Participants must be committed to join both days.
StartR will cover topics, such as:
- Overview of the R01 components & review criteria
- Writing crystal clear Specific Aims
- Defining your Significance & Innovation subsections
- Practicing evidence-based Peer Review
- Panel discussions with recent R01 winners
Additionally, we are reserving time on both days for you to write during Time to Write sessions and receive 1:1 coaching from research development strategists during Office Hours.
