About the Speaker: Dr. Michaela Kiernan is a Senior Research Scientist at the Stanford Prevention Research Center (SPRC) at the Stanford University School of Medicine (SOM). She received her PhD in Social/Health Psychology from Yale University. Dr. Kiernan’s research focuses on testing behavioral interventions that promote long-term lifestyle changes and weight management among subgroups at risk; and developing recruitment and retention strategies of underserved groups into clinical trials. Dr. Kiernan served as a reviewer for the AHA Western States Affiliate Behavioral Science, Epidemiology, and Prevention Review Committee (2000-2003), a Standing Member of the NIH Psychosocial Risk and Disease Prevention (PDRP) Study Section (2009-2012) and is currently a Standing Member (Aug 2014-present) and Co-Chair of the NIH PRDP Member Conflict Study Section (Jan 2018-present). In 2002 and 2007, she was awarded the SPRC/Department of Medicine Divisional Teaching Award; in 2009, the Stanford University Postdoctoral Association Excellence in Mentoring Award; and in 2012, the Stanford University Postdoctoral Association Recognition Award for Extraordinary Service for the Advancement of Postdoctoral Fellows. Dr. Kiernan was a consultant for the Stanford Center of Excellence Minority Faculty Development Program (2001-2007), and is currently the Director of the Stanford University School of Medicine Office of Faculty Development and Diversity R01 Countdown Program, an intensive grant writing ‘boot camp’ program for Stanford junior faculty that has generated over $51 million in grant funds for the faculty to date (2013-present).
Route to Getting Grants (R2G2) is specially designed for junior faculty at Stanford. Sessions cover all aspects of grant writing, delivered through panel sessions, workshops and focused talks. R2G2 also provides unique networking opportunities, enabling cross faculty collaborations and multidisciplinary partnerships. R2G2 ensures that junior faculty have all the tools and strategies to lead them to grant success and on to independent research careers.
R2G2 is jointly sponsored by Stanford Vice Provost and Dean of Research, School of Medicine’s Office of Faculty Development and Diversity, Engineering Research Administration in the School of Engineering, and Stanford Earth.
